Role brief

financeroles summary, based on the employer's posting.

What you'll do

  • Review completed CDD and EDD cases, challenge the maker’s work, and provide formal approval against quality and policy standards
  • Check files against internal quality controls, including whether risk ratings meet policy and regulatory requirements
  • Work through a large caseload and scheduled reassessments within agreed deadlines
  • Resolve difficult remediation issues with KYC makers and handle escalated regulatory or quality questions from global stakeholders
  • Keep up with global KYC rules and apply internal policies and jurisdictional requirements

What you bring

  • Two to five or more years in KYC, AML, or compliance within financial services, preferably in investment banking
  • Hands-on experience checking peers’ KYC work or formally approving completed files
  • Strong grasp of global KYC regulation and the ability to assess risk ratings against policy and regulatory thresholds

Who this fits

This suits an experienced second-line checker, rather than someone focused on preparing KYC files. The role is based on-site in London and is offered as an initial six-month contract.

From the employer

Our client, a leading financial services organisation, is seeking an experienced KYC Checker to join their compliance function. This is a dedicated second line checker role, not a KYC maker position, focused on peer review and sign off across Customer Due Diligence (CDD) and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) files. The successful candidate will independently review completed files, challenge and validate the work of KYC makers, and formally sign off files as meeting internal quality standards, regulatory thresholds, and global policy requirements.

This is a strong opportunity for a detail driven compliance professional with proven checker experience and an investment banking background, to take ownership of file quality across a high volume caseload while working closely with KYC makers to resolve complex remediation issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as checker, performing formal sign off on completed CDD and EDD files reviewed by KYC makers
  • Own file reviews, performing quality checks and second line reviews on completed CDD and EDD files
  • Validate KYC files against the client's internal quality standards through robust quality assurance processes
  • Manage a high volume of KYC cases and periodic reassessments within agreed timeframes
  • Proactively identify and resolve complex KYC challenges, working closely with KYC makers to remediate issues
  • Ensure risk ratings are applied accurately and align with company policy and regulatory thresholds
  • Apply strong attention to detail and accuracy verification across all reviewed files
  • Act as a point of escalation for regulatory and quality queries, liaising confidently with stakeholders globally
  • Stay current on global KYC regulation and quickly absorb specific internal policies and jurisdictional requirements

Requirements

  • 2 to 5+ years of experience in a dedicated KYC, AML, or compliance role within financial services, ideally gained within an investment bank
  • Proven hands-on experience performing peer reviews or sign offs in a checker capacity
  • Strong working knowledge of global KYC regulation, with the ability to quickly learn firm specific policies and requirements
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail and the ability to problem solve complex regulatory challenges efficiently
  • Strong risk assessment skills, with a clear understanding of how risk ratings map to policy and regulatory thresholds
  • Comfortable working independently, with confident communication skills and the ability to engage stakeholders across global time zones
  • Familiarity with KYC platforms and case management systems
